SAN DIEGO (AP) - A man has been convicted of murder for the beating death of his boss, a prominent San Diego architect who had taken his staff out for drinks before he was killed.

U-T San Diego (https://bit.ly/1rrlF0V) reports that jurors found Higinio Salgado guilty Thursday of second-degree murder.

Salgado was a facilities manager for Graham Downes, an architect who designed high-profile restaurants and hotels in San Diego.

In April 2013, Downes hosted happy hour for employees then took them back to his house.

Prosecutors say Salgado became angry when the name of a former employee came up and began shouting that the man “better not” take his job. That led to a confrontation outside the house between the two men that ended with Salgado pummeling Downes as he lay on the ground.
