DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) - Diamondhead’s city council has voted to dismiss city manager Richard Rose.

Rose has until Friday to request an appeal and public hearing or his termination will be final, officials said.

If Rose were to request a hearing, a final determination on his employment status will be made then, officials said.

Meanwhile, Rose will be suspended with pay, City Attorney Sean Tindall said Wednesday after the 4-2 vote. Rose was not present at Wednesday’s meeting.

Rose has served as city manager since June of 2012. He served as city manager of D’Iberville for five years until 2009, when his contract was not renewed. He also served on the Gulfport City Council for 15 years.

Council member Ron Rech said Wednesday there was a list of grievances against Rose, including tardiness and bills not being paid on time.

“He’s not doing his job as we wanted him to do his job,” said Rech, who voted for Rose’s ouster. “Relationships are deteriorating between him and outside agencies.”

Public Works Director Richard Sullivan will serve as city manager in the interim.

“(Sullivan) will basically be managing the operation and the employees until this whole thing gets resolved,” Rech said.
