PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Lincoln Chafee is heading to Europe for economic development meetings in Italy and Ireland.
Chafee’s spokeswoman said Thursday that Chafee will be accompanied by Commerce RI Executive Director Marcel Valois. She said Donald Sweitzer, the chairman of Rhode Island-based GTECH which has business in Italy and Ireland, will be in Rome and join them there.
Chafee spokeswoman Faye Zuckerman said they’ll meet with companies that have expressed an interest in Rhode Island operations. The companies haven’t been named.
She said Rhode Island is attractive because of its proximity to Europe, and its transportation facilities including T.F. Green Airport and links to the Northeast Corridor.
Chafee arrives in Rome on Sunday and returns on Thursday. He will attend meetings in Italy until Tuesday, then go to Ireland for meetings Wednesday and Thursday.
