BALTIMORE (AP) - A new exhibit commemorating Pope John Paul II’s visit to Baltimore in 1995 is opening at the basilica’s museum.

The exhibit opening Thursday honors the canonization of John Paul II this Sunday. The exhibit is free of charge.

It includes photographs and memorabilia from the pope’s visit. Other items include a telegram the pope sent to Cardinal William Keeler following his return to Rome and a piece of wood from the altar used for the Mass celebrated by the pope at Camden Yards.

Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII are being declared saints by Pope Francis during a special Mass in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
