BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - A 30-year-old upstate New York Roman Catholic priest has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
James Taylor was arrested Wednesday after a two-day investigation. He’s accused of inappropriate conduct with a 15-year-old Clifton Park girl since last October, including physical contact, telephone calls, text messages and photos.
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo says the girl’s family notified authorities on Monday.
Taylor has pleaded not guilty and is free on his own recognizance.
Investigators say Taylor met the girl while serving as a deacon and youth minister at a church in Clifton Park. He has since been ordained.
District Attorney James Murphy III says authorities were able to stop Taylor’s alleged behavior before it got worse.
It couldn’t immediately be determined if Taylor has a lawyer.
