BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois High School Association has re-instated the former Homewood-Flossmoor girls basketball coach whose team was disqualified from the state tournament for rules violations.

Anthony Smith was suspended in February amid allegations of recruiting violations. The association now says Smith is reinstated and is eligible to coach at any IHSA member school immediately.

IHSA executive director Marty Hickman noted Homewood-Flossmoor High School and its administration was cooperative throughout an investigation into the school’s athletic program. He said administrators were “forthcoming in providing the board with the information they needed to make this decision.”

The IHSA decision comes a week after the Homewood-Flossmoor school board voted not to renew Smith’s contract for the 2014-15 school year. However Smith’s lawyer, Patrick Mayerbock, says the coach is happy about the IHSA’s decision.
