LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska is launching a mobile app for smartphones and tablets that will help jobseekers looking for employment in the state.

The free app is an extension of www.NEworks.nebraska.gov , the Nebraska Department of Labor’s job site that matches employers with qualified candidates.

Gov. Dave Heineman announced the launch Wednesday. Heineman said both employers and job seekers will benefit from it.

“There’s no question that in the workforce today, our citizens want access to a variety of services that we can provide,” Heineman said.

The governor’s office says there are approximately 35,000 Nebraska jobs posted on NEworks and nearly 25,000 resumes of qualified job seekers. The mobile app gives users the option to search jobs by company, job title and location. The app is available for download on both Android and Apple devices.

State officials developed the application to target a younger demographic and keep pace with evolving technology, said Catherine Lang, commissioner of labor and director of the Department of Economic Development.

In addition to the app, Nebraska’s Chambers of Commerce and economic development organizations throughout the state have started placing ’Local Jobs’ buttons on their websites that link to NEworks.

The NEworks website offers career exploration resources, employer information, assessment tools and labor market data.
