NEW YORK (AP) - A tentative contract deal between the MTA and Transport Workers Union Local 100 includes $6 million in payments into a fund used by the union.

The Wall Street Journal (https://on.wsj.com/1haRPKA ) says the provision is contained in a “side letter agreement” that wasn’t highlighted when the pact was announced last week.

It says the MTA agreed to pay $2 million a year over three years into the fund “in the interests of sound labor relations.”

Union President John Samuelsen tells the paper the money would be deposited into a “labor benefit account” controlled by the MTA. He says the union will be able to use it at its discretion.

He says it would primarily be used for medical benefits.

The MTA declined to comment before voting on the pact next week.
