SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego police are looking for a robbery suspect who escaped police custody while he was on his way to be booked.

U-T San Diego says (https://bit.ly/1lBCcA2 ) the handcuffed man ran through an opening in a gate after he exited a patrol car at Central Jail.

Officials say the gate was opening for another police car.

An officer and sheriff’s deputies gave chase but lost him near a trolley stop.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Angelo Paschall.

He was suspected of shoplifting at a Burlington Coat Factory store. Because he fought with the arresting officer, the charge was changed to strong-arm robbery.
