Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas underwent emergency heart surgery on Tuesday, according to the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal.

The Journal reported that Mr. Boozman, a Republican, is recovering after being taken to Mercy Hospital by ambulance.

“U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) is undergoing surgery at an Arkansas hospital and is receiving excellent care,” his office said in a statement. “Additional updates will be provided by his Senate office once more information is available. Please direct any questions to his official office and respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, said that, “We’re glad to hear that John is doing well and we all look forward to having him back at work.”

“He is a fantastic Senator and a tireless advocate for Arkansas and the people he so proudly represents,” Mr. McConnell said.
