PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Supreme Court has upheld the state’s firing of a company that had delivered human remains to the medical examiner’s office since 1998.
The Department of Health terminated the contract of JPL Livery Services in 2007 for what officials called serious contract violations, including that six of the company’s nine workers had criminal records. Officials say JPL Livery also had twice taken more than an hour to deliver bodies.
The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1lA7eZc ) the Supreme Court ruled last week that there was credible testimony that JPL Livery violated contract terms.
JPL Livery argued that state officials terminated its contract without cause and in bad faith. The company was getting $120 per body transport in the Providence area and $125 per transport in the rest of the state.
