LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A new policy developed by the mayor’s staff will guide the use and rental of the city’s suite at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, which opened last fall on the west side of downtown Lincoln.
“Broad usage of the suite is encouraged, and it will not be primarily for government officials,” the new policy says.
Among the approved uses are economic development and honoring community heroes, which is beneficial to the city “by inspiring the city’s residents and youth, expressing gratitude and rewarding those who have improved the city or performed valuable service to our community or the public, or improved the quality of life in the city,” the policy says.
Also, with the mayor’s approval, the city can provide the suite free to nonprofits that serve poor people.
The city will rent the suite to individuals and groups and use the proceeds to help pay costs arising from when it’s used without charge by other groups, the Lincoln Journal Star said (https://bit.ly/1iF4tC4 ).
A local civic leadership group, Leadership Lincoln, will coordinate use of the city’s suite, including arranging its rental.
The flat rental fee includes a dozen tickets to the event and four parking passes. The fees will be $1,800 for events to which tickets are $76 or more, $1,200 for events for which they’re $75 or less, $500 for men’s basketball games and $300 for women’s basketball games.
City Councilman Jon Camp, who had urged Mayor Chris Beutler to sell the suite, said the rentals would not likely bring in any money to help with arena costs.
But it’s a start, he said, and the council can evaluate the policy a year from now.
