WASHINGTON (AP) - Right-hander Aaron Barrett has been recalled by the Washington Nationals from Triple-A Syracuse, 10 days after being optioned there.

The Nationals brought Barrett back before Tuesday’s game against the Angels and optioned left-hander Xavier Cedeno to Syracuse.

Barrett, a rookie, has given up one hit and hasn’t allowed an earned run in 4 1-3 innings over six appearances for Washington in 2014.

He knew the Nationals planned to bring him back from Syracuse relatively soon, but said: “Did I really expect it to be on the 10th day? Not really.”

Cedeno gave up two hits in 1 1-3 scoreless innings in Washington’s 4-2 loss to Los Angeles on Monday.

Also Tuesday, right-hander Doug Fister threw 44 pitches in three innings at extended spring training in Florida. He is on the disabled list with a back injury.
