ADELPHI, Md. (AP) - University of Maryland University College is aiming to boost enrollment with a tuition discount for out-of-state federal employees and their families.

Officials at the Adelphi-based school that focuses on online education and caters to working adults say federal workers, their spouses and dependents will get a 25 percent tuition discount for all undergraduate programs and most graduate programs starting this summer. It’s part of a partnership with U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

The announcement comes weeks after UMUC announced layoffs to address a $25 million revenue slump amid enrollment declines.

As part of the OPM partnership, “federal subject matter experts” will help the university develop courses to prepare students for federal employment, particularly in high-demand fields.
