Less than a month out from his primary showdown with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Louisville businessman Matt Bevin has lost his chief spokeswoman.

WFPL News reported that Rachel Semmel confirmed that she had left the Bevin campaign.

“Rachel has moved back to D.C. to pursue another career opportunity and is no longer with the campaign,” Sarah Durand, a campaign spokeswoman, told WFPL. “The Bevin campaign is grateful for all she did for the team and wishes Rachel the best in her future endeavors.”

Mr. Bevin, a political newcomer, is fighting an uphill battle to unseat Mr. McConnell in the state’s May 20 primary.

Mr. McConnell has raised more than $20 million and is sitting on more than $10.3 million, according to his March 31 filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Mr. Bevin, meanwhile, has raised $2.8 million and has $455,187 cash on hand, as well as $600,000 in debt.
