PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona House has rejected a bill that would have limited the size of state pensions for people hired after this summer.
The 36-31 vote is the second time the House rejected the bill by Rep. John Kavanagh. That means the bill can’t be revived.
House Bill 2058 passed the Senate with changes on Monday by a vote of 16-7. But the House rejected the proposal later Monday and again Tuesday.
Kavanagh’s bill would have limited pensions by limiting the amount of salary and other pay used in its calculations to $150,000. Pensions max out at 80 percent of the final pay amount, so pensions for future workers would have been capped at $120,000.
