Notes: Masters champion Bubba Watson, the 2011 winner, and PGA champion Jason Dufner, the 2012 winner, are skipping the tournament. Dufner is playing the China Open. … Patrick Reed, a two-time winner this season, won two high school state championships at University Lab School in Baton Rouge. … Shreveport resident David Toms is making his 21st start in the event. The former LSU player won in 2001 at English Turn. … The Wells Fargo Championship is next week in Charlotte, N.C., followed by The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Last week: Michelle Wie won the LPGA LOTTE Championship in her native Hawaii, rallying to beat Angela Stanford by two strokes. Wie has three LPGA Tour victories.
Notes: Wie, a Stanford graduate, is in the field along with top-ranked Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, Karrie Webb, Anna Nordqvist, Paula Creamer and 16-year-old Lydia Ko. Webb and Nordqvist each have two victories this season. Creamer, from Pleasanton, won in Singapore early last month. Ko won the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in December in Thailand in her second start as a professional. She won the Canadian Women’s Open the last two years and has five victories in pro events. … The tournament is the LPGA Tour’s first in the Bay Area since the 2010 CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge at Blackhawk in Danville. … The North Texas LPGA Shootout is next week in Irving.

Last year: Brett Rumford won at Binhai Lake to become the first Australian in 41 years to win consecutive European Tour titles. The Ballantine’s Championship winner the previous week in South Korea, Rumford beat Finland’s Mikko Ilonen by four strokes. Australians Jack Newton and Graham Marsh each won consecutive events in 1972.
Last week: England’s Lee Westwood won the Malaysian Open by seven strokes for his 40th worldwide victory. He also won the 1997 tournament.
Notes: Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, the winner of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai and PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup last season, is in the field along with Rumford, PGA champion Jason Dufner, Ian Poulter, Francesco Molinari, Peter Uihlein and 15-year-old Chinese player Guan Tianlang. … The event also is sanctioned by the China Golf Association. … The Championship at Laguna National is next week in Singapore, followed by the Madeira Islands Open.

Notes: Ortiz leads the money list with $304,458, well over the amount needed to earn a PGA Tour spot next season as a top-25 finisher. The former North Texas player would earn an immediate PGA Tour promotion with another victory. He will be 23 on Thursday. … The tournament is in its 23rd season. … The South Georgia Classic is next week at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, Ga.
