ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice is launching a new five-person re-entry unit to help cut recidivism and help young offenders find jobs.
Department officials said Tuesday that the new unit is an attempt to restructure the agency to meet Georgia’s juvenile justice reform laws.
Officials say the re-entry unit will create a program to help youth overcome barriers in finding viable employment while they’re under community supervision.
Department officials say the re-entry services unit will work with clinical researchers to make sure the program is data-driven and is poised to help reduce recidivism.
Department officials say the unit will be led by former state Department of Corrections counseling services manager B. Keith Jones, a graduate of Valdosta State University with more than 20 years of experience in state government.
