CHICAGO (AP) - Northern Illinois’ top federal prosecutor has run his second straight Boston Marathon after participating last year when the race was marred by deadly bombings.
Zachary Fardon completed the course in 2013 before two explosions killed three people and injured more than 260 others near the finish line.
The spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago, Randall Samborn, said Tuesday that Fardon hadn’t initially planned to run a second straight Boston Marathon. But he says the 47-year-old “felt compelled” in the wake of the attacks.
Fardon’s official time Monday was 2 hours, 59 minutes and 17 seconds. That put him in 2,214th place out of around 36,000 runners.
His personal best marathon time is 40 seconds faster. He ran that at last year’s Boston Marathon.
