The special guest at Easter Sunday’s matchup between the Boston Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings was none other than Jesus Christ — or at least a man dressed as the Christian savior.
A Twitter poster named Jared Weiss snapped the picture of the long-haired man donned in robe and draped with a red sash and put it on the social media site with the accompanying text: “Jesus in the house for the #Bruins game. #NHL playoffs.”
Shortly after, another social media user posted an update, apparently as “Jesus” walked through the crowd, United Press International reported.
KimL8 tweeted: “Jesus just got arrested & escorted out. Leave him alone, he’s a Bruins fan.”
Video posted on UPI captured the man depicting “Jesus” walking through the crowd, waving and smiling, while someone who appeared to be an official escort walked behind him. But it turns out, the man wasn’t actually arrested — and that he was actually a Twitter user who goes by the handle of Thor.
The man dressed as “Jesus” tweeted an explanation to one social media user who said he had been arrested: “I wasn’t thrown out. I was escorted back to my seat.”
Meanwhile, the TD Garden crowd gave him a thumbs-up for his appearance, voting him “Fan of the Game.”
“Jesus was just voted Fan of the Game. Busy day for that guy! #HeIsRisen #NHLplayoffs #HappyEaster #Bruins,” another Twitter poster reported, UPI said.
The Bruins went on to win the game, 4-1. The series with Detroit now stands at 1-1 with the next game set for Tuesday, on Red Wings’ ice.
