WASHINGTON (AP) - Angels slugger Albert Pujols hit his 499th career homer to move one away from become the 26th player in major league history with 500.

The first baseman hit a three-run shot beyond left field off Washington Nationals starter Taylor Jordan on a 1-1 count in the first inning Tuesday night.

In his next at-bat, in the second inning, the 34-year-old Pujols struck out swinging against Jordan.

No player has hit homer No. 499 and No. 500 in the same game, according to STATS.

Tuesday’s homer was Pujols’ seventh this season, all in the past 13 games.
