ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - The new main campus for Central Louisiana Technical Community College is coming to downtown Alexandria.

Under a model proposed by the city of Alexandria, the new facility could be quite a bit more than that.

The city recently sent out a Request for Information for potential partnerships that could tie programming for CLTCC, Louisiana State University of Alexandria and various other business support and acceleration services into a downtown site.

The model is called “Alexandria - Where Education Connects.”

“This is a very large increase of what was the community college initiative,” said Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy. “There’s an opportunity to get something really right on this thing. I hope we take advantage of this moment.”

Full feasibility and details await the RFI results. But the idea is to take various educational programming and services that should be working together to develop a strong workforce and business community, and move them to a consolidated site.

LSUA Chancellor Dan Howard said he is supportive of the general principles of the model and is interested in evaluating more information.

(CLTCC’s) presence and our presence downtown is important to the community,” he said. “We want to work together.”

In addition to CLTCC, LSUA and the city, other stakeholder partners would include the Central Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, the Central Louisiana Business Incubator, the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority.

The model would include:

-LSUA programming currently offered at the A.C. Buchanan Allied Health Building on Jackson Street.

-A “2+2” portal designed to foster co-programming between CLTCC and LSUA and to help interested CLTCC students progress to a four-year degree from LSUA.

-At least some of the business education and acceleration services offered at the Central Louisiana Business Incubator.

-“Front door” services for CLEDA, the Chamber of Commerce and GAEDA.

-Offices of private sector partners. One natural possibility would be microlender ACCION, which is at the incubator.
