CONROE, Texas (AP) - A Houston-area traffic accident has left a 14-year-old driver hurt and her 15-year-old passenger dead after the car smashed into a tree.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday did not immediately release names of the teens involved in the crash near Conroe.

Investigators say the accident happened Monday night and the underage driver allegedly went through a stop sign before the vehicle hit a tree. The boy who was riding with her was dead at the scene.

DPS officials on Tuesday did not immediately provide information on the condition of the injured girl, who was transported to a hospital, or the owner of the car she drove.
