SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - The owners of a San Jose trailer park are vowing to appeal a $111 million jury verdict in favor of park residents who sued arguing the facility was allowed to fall into disrepair.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (https://bit.ly/1i3gDVR ) that the jury sided with 61 residents of California Hawaiian Mobile Estates, who said their complaints were ignored about sewer backups, electrical blackouts and other major problems.

The large award dwarfed previous failure-to-maintain lawsuit awards against mobile home parks in California, the last of which was about $12 million.

Park owner Equity Lifestyle Properties is the largest mobile home park in the nation, with more than 140,000 home sites in 32 states and Canada.

CEO Marguerite Nader says they disagree strongly with the verdict, and that facility is award winning.
