DETROIT (AP) - Outfielder J.D. Martinez has been brought up by the Detroit Tigers after a torrid stretch at Triple-A Toledo.

Detroit selected the contract of the 26-year-old outfielder from Toledo before Monday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox and put right-hander Luke Putkonen on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation, a move retroactive to Saturday,

Martinez hit .251 with 24 homers and 126 RBIs in 252 games for Houston from 2011-13. He was batting .308 with 10 homers and 22 RBIs in 17 games for Toledo.

Outfielder Andy Dirks, who had surgery on his back on March 10 and hasn’t played this season, was transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
