DENVER (AP) - The town nearest Red Rocks Amphitheatre is hearing complaints that new noise is bad noise.
Morrison Mayor Sean Forey is quoted by The Denver Post (https://tinyurl.com/knazor8 ) Monday as saying the complaints about the venue focus on electronic dance music, which features a DJ playing and mixing club music at high volume.
“You can get the craziest Metallica concert, and that’s not even close to what we’re talking about,” Morrison Mayor Sean Forey told the Post. “This is something new and different than anything in the past.”
One Morrison resident complained to town officials of being deprived of sleep by the loud thumping. Another said retreating to the basement while wearing ear plugs didn’t help.
Members of the Morrison town board are meeting with members of the Jefferson County Commission this week to discuss how to resolve the problem.
Red Rocks is owned by the city and county of Denver, which on Jan. 1 implemented new limits on concert volume and duration after receiving complaints. Artists face fines ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for violations of the volume and curfew rules.
Dan Rowland, assistant director of marketing and communications for Denver Arts & Venues, said the operators of Red Rocks will be listening closely to residents to see how effective the new rules are.
The first electronic dance music show of this season at Red Rocks is the Global Dub Festival, scheduled for May 16.
