NEW YORK (AP) - City officials are trying to determine why ambulances were delayed in responding to a fire in Queens that killed two 4-year-old siblings.

Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano told the New York Post (https://bit.ly/1fi2Yp5 ) the fire department was reviewing dispatch tapes to try to find out what caused the delay.

The fire was reported just before midnight Saturday in a two-story brick home in the Far Rockaway section of Queens. The newspaper said EMS workers didn’t arrive at the scene until 21 minutes after the fire was originally reported.

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday confirmed that an investigation was underway.

Authorities say the blaze was accidentally set by children playing with fire.

The children’s 4-year-old sister, their 63-year-old grandfather and a 55-year-old woman survived the blaze and are in stable condition.
