New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has proclaimed May 16 as “Barbara Walters Day,” in honor of the TV host’s last appearance on ABC’s “The View.”
The mayor presented a formal New York City proclamation to Ms. Walters on Monday’s show alongside his wife, Chirlane McCray.
“I have to tell you, for over 50 years, Barbara, you have been a living legend in this town,” he said. “You have done so much for this city.”
“I didn’t expect this,” Ms. Walters joked. “Mayor [Michael] Bloomberg never did this for me!”
“Times are changing,” Mr. de Blasio replied.
“The View” is planning a weeklong farewell to Ms. Walters during that week, and the ABC News headquarters in New York City will be named in her honor.
