DARRINGTON, Wash. (AP) - The United Way of Snohomish County says it plans to distribute $400,000 in disaster relief money to two communities affected by the Oso mudslide.
A spokesman says the cities of Arlington and Darrington will each get $200,000 on Monday. That will bring the total amount distributed by the group to $925,000. The organization has raised $2 million for mudslide relief.
The U.S. Department of Labor on Monday also announced $2.8 million in grants to help with cleanup and recovery efforts. That money will go to the state Employment Security Department to create temporary jobs to help with the recovery efforts.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency also said it would provide commuting assistance to mudslide survivors who face long detours around the closed road between Arlington and Darrington.
