CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Five Laramie County organizations have applied for more than $200,000 in state grants for services to the needy.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported Monday (https://tinyurl.com/lzcoccv ) the total is higher than in previous years, when county groups sought around $83,000 or less in grants in Temporary Aid to Needy Families.

County grants manager Sandra Newland says the reason is that other funding sources are drying up.

Requests include $75,000 for job training for single mothers through CLIMB Wyoming, $50,000 for the Boys and Girls Club and $41,000 for WHMI Strong Families Strong Wyoming, which promotes the importance of marriage and families.

High Country Consulting is seeking $30,000 for counselors to work with teen parents and the Wyoming Family Home Ownership Program is asking for $4,600 to help families buy homes.
