Kraft Foods Inc. has recalled 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer hot dogs because some of them may have cheese inside, even though they’re billed as the classic wiener — cheese-free — on the package.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said the company mistakenly put “Classic Cheese Dogs” inside its “Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners” packaging, The Washington Post reported.
The problem is a packaging error only. There is nothing wrong with the cheese itself — although milk is an allergen and nothing on the 98,000 packages indicates the presence of the dairy product.
The wieners in question were produced in March and were sold with the number “Est. 537H” on the inside of the package.
The recall hits 16-ounce packs of “Classic Wieners Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added,” with “USE BY 16 Jun 2014” dates and product codes of “044700000632,” as well as the “Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and Pasteurized Cheese Product” with “USE BY 16 Jun 2014” dates and case codes of “00447000005300,” The Post reported.
