President Obama may crow that Democrats ought not to run from Obamacare during the lead-up to the 2014 elections — but rank-and-file Dems aren’t so confident and filled with bravado.
Democrat Rep. Stephen Lynch, who represents part of Massachusetts, told the local Boston Herald that Obamacare was going to cost the party big this time around. His prediction?
“We will lose seats in the House,” he said, Breitbart reported. “And I think we may lose the Senate. I think that’s a possibility if things continue to go the way they have been … primarily because of health care.”
His statements come on the heels of Mr. Obama’s public boasting on the successes of Obamacare, as enrollments reached the reported 8 million mark. Just last week, Mr. Obama advised Democrats against running from Obamacare and said they should actually use the health care law to advance their campaigns during the midterms.
But Mr. Lynch is hardly the only doubting Democrat.
Rep. Colleen Hanabusa told The New York Times that Obamacare has left her Hawaiian constituents “frustrated and embarrassed” at the pitfalls the health care overhaul have brought into the state. That was around the same time the same newspaper reported that plenty of Democrats “are running from [Obamacare], rather than on it.”
Recent polls from various outlets also show the vast majority of Americans now view the health care package in a negative light.
