SUPREME COURT WON’T HEAR GOV. SCOTT’S DRUG TESTING APPEAL

The U.S. Supreme Court refused Monday to hear an appeal by Florida Gov. Rick Scott on his 2011 executive order that would have required random drug tests for as many as 85,000 state workers. The ruling lets stand an appeals court decision that Scott’s order was too broad.

4 RUNNING FOR GOP NOMINATION IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA SPECIAL ELECTION

The Republican voters of southwest Florida have either been entertained or appalled by the allegations made by the candidates seeking to replace their congressman, who resigned in January after being arrested for buying cocaine. The campaign in the solidly GOP district to replace Trey Radel has been marred by allegations of connections to child sex offenders, questionable business dealings and negative attack ads.

FLORIDA LOTTERY TERMINATES SALES AT 3 LOCATIONS

The Florida Lottery has permanently ended the contracts of three South Florida stores after officials say an investigation found evidence of fraud. A Lottery news release on Monday announced that it will terminate sales at Akel Market, Georgia Market and Kwik Stop Food Store, all three of which are located in Pompano Beach. The Lottery suspended sales at the three locations earlier this month.

21 INJURED WHEN CAR HITS CHURCH

Police say 21 people were injured when a car apparently malfunctioned and slammed into the Second Haitian Baptist Church as an Easter service was about to get underway Sunday night. About 200 people were inside the church. Police are investigating but said it appears to be a horrible accident. Many of the injured were taken to hospitals, but officials say no surgeries were required.

2 DEAD, 2 INJURED IN TAMPA PARK SHOOTING

Two men died when shooting broke out during an argument at Tampa’s Al Barnes Park on Easter Sunday. Tampa police say a man and a woman were critically injured in the shooting, which occurred about 5 p.m. Sunday as several families were enjoying Easter afternoon in the park.
