CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A second candidate is running to replace Joe Riley as mayor of Charleston.

Businessman John Tecklenburg announced his candidacy Monday for the 2015 election. Tecklenburg was the city’s director of economic development from 1995 through 1999.

Tecklenburg said if he’s elected he would launch what he calls Charleston 2020 to create a blueprint for the city’s future. City Councilman Dean Riegel earlier announced that he is also running for mayor of South Carolina’s second-largest city.

Riley is serving an unprecedented 10th term. He has served longer as mayor than anyone in the city’s 344-year history. He has said this will be his last term.
