RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Department of Transportation is soliciting ideas from the private sector for a proposed new district office in Hampton Roads.

The department and the city of Suffolk are seeking input from individuals, firms, teams or organizations that might have an interest in developing, designing, building and financing the proposed campus-style office.

Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne Jr. says in a news release that the request for information is the first step in reaching out to private sector experts as well as the local governments in the district.

During this year’s session, the General Assembly instructed the department to study the location of its existing office in Suffolk and determine whether a new location could better serve the region.
