DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A teenager was killed while trying to climb aboard a slow-moving train in Des Moines.

Des Moines police say a male in his late teens was waiting with friends at a railroad crossing in the 2000 block of Des Moines Street shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday. Police say the young man tried to board the train while it was moving, possibly so he could cross to the other side. The teenager then fell and got caught beneath one of the cars, and was dragged.

Police say the investigation scene was spread over four railroad crossings. Des Moines police were interviewing witnesses. The victim’s identity was being withheld until family members are notified.
