LEESVILLE, La. (AP) - The City Council has decided to take no action on two development projects until after a new mayor takes office at the end of June.
The American Press reported (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNbpro) the council tabled consideration of proposals for the University Parkway/Louisiana Highway 467 projects.
The first mater involves an easement agreement. The second deals with beginning the advertising process for contracts related to extending water and sewer service between U.S. Highway 171 and Louisiana Highway 28.
“This is for to construct sewer along Highway 28 from Highway 171. It would have essentially given us sewer all the way up to Belview Road,” said Mayor Robert Rose.
“But given the election change and the administration change, I’m proposing that we table this until the next administration has a chance to look at this and consider it.”
Rose lost his recent re-election bid for re-election; Rick Allen will take over as mayor on June 30.
It’s unclear whether the next administration will continue the development on Louisiana Highway 467.
City officials see the University Parkway plan as a way for Leesville to grow.
City Administrator Courtney Christian said the council will not halt previously approved projects for the University Parkway development.
“All of those have their standing and their validity in place,” she said. “And it is, of course, at the discretion of the incoming mayor what projects are a priority, but as far as the status of it changing, no, the status has not changed. It’s still a moving project.”
