NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Police say a pedestrian who was struck by a van and killed while crossing an intersection in a northeast Nashville neighborhood failed to obey a traffic signal.

Officials said in a press release on Sunday that 57-year-old Michael Conner of Nashville was struck around 10 p.m. on Saturday by the van traveling north in Madison. Conner, who was in a wheelchair, died at the scene.

The driver of the van, 71-year-old Arthur Williams of Madison, and a witness, told police that the traffic signal at the intersection was green for northbound traffic.

Police say the contributing factor in the crash was Conner’s failure to obey a traffic control device.
