A Malaysia Airlines jetliner bound for Bangalore had to make an emergency landing Sunday after the plane’s landing gear malfunctioned following takeoff, the airline said.
Malaysia Airlines said Flight MH192, a Boeing 737-800, was scheduled to arrive in Bangalore at 11:35 p.m. local time, but had to turn back for Kuala Lumpur around 10:09 p.m. local time, CBS News reported.
“The aircraft’s right-hand landing gear malfunctioned upon takeoff,” the airline said in a statement, adding that rescue crews were waiting for the plane’s arrival.
The flight was carrying 159 passengers and seven crew members, and it reportedly landed safely.
Just last month, Malaysia Flight 370 took off for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur and disappeared with 239 passengers and crew.
Search teams continue to search the southern Indian Ocean but have not found the plane’s wreckage.
