CHICAGO (AP) - Cardinal Francis George says this may be his last Easter holiday as the spiritual leader of Chicago’s more than 2 million Roman Catholics.
The 77-year-old George is battling cancer and he spoke after a Sunday morning service at Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral.
The Chicago Sun-Times (https://bit.ly/1tpOXih) cites him as saying it may be his last Easter as the Archbishop of Chicago. But he added that he didn’t know if it would be his last one alive.
George said recently he believes the cancer will eventually take his life. He survived bladder cancer eight years ago and was diagnosed with cancer in 2012.
George told attendees of Sunday’s service that life events, like a serious illness, can force people to come to a better understanding of life.
