KEMAH, Texas (AP) - A man has been arrested after a bomb scare forced police to lock down a Wal-Mart southeast of Houston for hours and deploy an explosives squad and FBI technicians.
Police were called to the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Kemah, Texas, around 9 a.m. Saturday and encountered 36-year-old Mehrzad Malekzadeh of Sugar Land.
He had unknown devices on his body, as well as a non-working pipe bomb and other suspicious objects in his car.
None of the materials proved to be hazardous. But Malekzadeh was arrested for making terrorists threats involving a fake bomb.
Authorities kept the Wal-Mart closed with shoppers and employees inside for about four hours while they investigated. Anxious relatives and friends watched nearby.
Investigators said Malekzadeh was being evaluated for mental disorders.
