YORBA LINDA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County authorities say a 90-year-old woman has died in a fire at her home, and her son and two deputies were injured trying to rescue her.
The Los Angeles Times says (https://lat.ms/1oq1ORz) the blaze broke out Tuesday at the home in Yorba Linda.
County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi says the 56-year-old son tried to use a garden hose to knock down the flames but the fire was too hot.
He was being treated Tuesday night at a hospital for smoke inhalation and burns to his respiratory tract.
Two deputies who tried to enter the home were treated for smoke inhalation and released.
Ninety-year-old Katheryn Carras was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Concialdi says investigators suspect that a smoke alarm in the home was not working when the fire broke out.
