BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Chittenden County Transportation Authority board chairman Tom Buckley says striking bus drivers will be meeting with management to continue negotiations on a contract.
A bus strike affecting the most populated county in Vermont began on March 17, affecting approximately 9,500 daily riders.
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has been talking to both the management and the drivers and told the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1jYE7hf) that he believes the two parties are “very, very close to an agreement.”
The burden of the strike has fallen on students, immigrants and low-income Vermonters.
On Monday, CCTA officials said it had authorized staff to look into securing temporary bus drivers.
CCTA management will meet with drivers at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
