WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (AP) - Police say a southern Illinois woman has died after being shot in the head.

The woman’s husband, 66-year-old John Adams, was being held on a charge of attempted murder for Monday’s shooting of Kendra Adams.

The Southern Illinoisan reports (https://bit.ly/1hzDuat ) those charges were upgraded to first-degree murder after the 52-year-old’s death Tuesday at an Indiana hospital.

John Adams, of West Frankfort, is being held on $2 million bond in the Franklin County Jail.

Investigators say Kendra Adams had been shot in the back of the head with a small-caliber weapon.

It wasn’t immediately clear if John Adams has an attorney. He does not have a listed home telephone number.
