The divorce between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lyudmila, his wife of 30 years, has been finalized, the Kremlin has confirmed.
The two appeared on television in June to announce they were seeking a divorce.
“It was a joint decision: we hardly see each other, each of us has our own life,” Mr. Putin said at the time, BBC News reported.
The former KGB agent was still officially listed as “married” until only Thursday. References to Lyudmila was removed from Mr. Putin’s biography on the Kremlin website.
Lyudmila said the divorce was amicable and the two would “always remain close,” BBC News reported.
The president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to state-owned Itar-TASS news agency that “the divorce has completed.”
The Putins have two adult daughters, Maria and Yekaterina.
