LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas will soon learn if it’s still in the running to host the National Republican Convention in 2016.
The Republican National Committee says it will narrow the list of contenders and make an announcement Wednesday.
Eight cities are hoping to host the 2016 convention, where delegates will nominate the Republican candidate for president.
Besides Las Vegas, the other contenders are Dallas, Phoenix, Denver, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus.
Once the field is narrowed, RNC staff will conduct initial visits before cities are selected for official visits by a selection committee. The RNC will also review each location’s financing, convention space, media workspace and hotels.
Cities chosen for official site visits by the full selection committee will be announced in May.
