LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Advocates for the deaf and hard of hearing are recognizing the Nebraska Legislature for its efforts to provide closed captioning of floor debate.
The Nebraska Association for the Deaf presented the Nebraska Award for Advocacy to the Legislature on Wednesday. The Legislature has offered the service since January on Nebraska Educational Telecommunications.
Jonathan Scherling, president of the association, says the service allows him and others to receive the most-up-to-date information about what’s happening in the Legislature.
Sen. Bob Krist of Omaha, who accepted the award on behalf of lawmakers, says it’s important to ensure that the Legislature communicates effectively with its citizens.
