RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge in Vermont has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Court documents say 46-year-old Derek Thomas had gathered more than 3,000 images and 1,000 videos of child pornography at the time of his arrest in March 2012 in Colchester.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/1pJKrZj) videos were made of a 12-year-old Winooski girl, whose mother he had been dating.

Thomas had been targeted in 2012 by Operation Green Wave, a federal-state program aimed at rounding up individuals suspected of being involved in child pornography possession and distribution.

In November, he agreed to plead guilty to sexual exploitation of children by production of child pornography. In return, federal prosecutors dropped three other child pornography counts.
