LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The head of judo’s world governing body has fired back at international cycling’s new chief for suggesting the martial art could be moved to the Winter Olympics.
International cycling union president Brian Cookson told Britain’s Press Association last week that track cycling, judo, badminton and other indoor sports could be switched to the Winter Games to take pressure off the crowded Summer Olympics.
That didn’t sit well with International Judo Federation president Marius Vizer.
Vizer mocked Cookson on Wednesday, saying he was not lacking in “British humor.”
Vizer offered to help Cookson “in better understanding the world sports movement and in avoiding press communications at times when he actually does not have any message to transmit.’”
Under IOC policy, the Winter Olympics are restricted to sports on snow or ice.
