SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott isn’t publicly wading into whether the state prison system should disclose information about a new supplier of a lethal-injection drugs.

Abbott on Wednesday declined to take a stance after a federal judge halted two executions in Texas because prisons officials haven’t revealed where the state is getting its new batch.

Abbott acknowledged previously rejecting requests from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to withhold information about execution drugs. But he says it’s now best “to let the litigation take its course” following the order from U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore.

Abbott’s office is planning to appeal the ruling.

Defense attorneys say they need the name of the supplier to verify the quality of the drug and spare condemned inmates from unconstitutional pain and suffering.
